This proposal is going to elaborate about the news report which I will intend to research and develop. And, the topic of my news report is about H1N1 in Monash University, Sunway campus.

First of all, I have several documentary sources which contain background information, people’s opinion, and facts. The documentary sources are:

• Monash Occupational Health and Safety  site http://www.monash.edu.my/ohse/
  • The site is updating H1N1 case in Monash University and providing guidelines and tips about H1N1
• Malaysia Government site of H1N1http://h1n1.moh.gov.my/
  • The site is similar to Monash site, but it covers deeper and nation-scale about H1N1

• Malaysian newspaper covering H1N1 such as the Star online site
  • The site is carrying the number of stories about H1N1 affecting some students and schools in Malaysia

I will have two confirmed face to face interviews from some unknown people to share their thoughts and opinion about H1N1. These people are:

1. Prame Kumar Nair, Manager of Monash Occupational Health and Safety in Sunway Campus
2. For the second person, I intend to interview the president of Monash student association, to share about his opinion of how the  student association reacts and concerns towarding H1N1, as the main organization whose the role to protect student’s welfare
   • Yeong Yung Lin, MUSA president

And there are some alternatives. The main backup persons are:

1. Another person from OHSE who’s in charge of the H1N1 pandemic efforts in the University.

1. Another person from MUSA such as the Vice President or welfare officer

Third, these are the news values why I choose this topic:

1. Proximity: it is very local issue which is within Monash territory, and it is still near in time.
2. Importance : it will inform Monash citizens to beware and take care of H1N1
3. Novelty: it is such a new thing and unusual as Monash never experienced any kind of pandemic disease before.
4. Timeliness: H1N1 is a fresh issue which is recently happening in Monash.
